Welcome to the BRACE Project
The BRACE project – Building Resilient and Active Communities in Extractive Landscapes in Ghana – funded by the European Union is building the capacities of communities and civil society to confront these human rights violations and seek redress.
The overall aim of the project is to support target groups to contribute to securing sustainable and equitable environmental management and natural resource governance by government, extractive actors and communities in Ghana through advocacy, media reporting, Community-based Courtroom Advocacy, and engagements with duty bearers.
The project’s deliverables include trained Community Paralegals to support communities in seeking redress for human rights violations; access to legal advice and justice through a network of qualified legal practitioners offering online advice and support for human rights cases; a Legal Access Fund and community courtroom advocacy actions to help affected groups access legal support; trained civil society and community based organisations to gather evidence and undertake advocacy; a National Platform on Mineral Governance; and a ‘Human Rights in Ghana’s Mining Sector Tracker’ that is the purpose of this website.
Key Objectives:
Empower communities to claim their environmental and land rights.
Provide access to legal support for communities affected by mining.
Track and report violations committed by mining companies.
