BRACE Project Launched to Improve Sustainable Mining in Ghana
The European Union has launched the Building Resilient and Active Communities in Extractive Landscapes in Ghana (BRACE) project, a EUR 1.718 million initiative designed to promote environmentally responsible mining practices while protecting residents in mining-affected areas.
Led by A Rocha Ghana in partnership with the Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM) and the Nature and Development Foundation (NDF), the project prioritizes environmental preservation and the well-being of local communities in Ghana's extractive sector.
The initiative addresses critical governance challenges by working to strengthen human rights protections, enhance transparency, and improve accountability in mineral extraction. By focusing on sustainable environmental management and equitable natural resource governance, BRACE aims to ensure that mining activities benefit communities while safeguarding ecosystems.
The project reflects the European Union's broader commitment to fostering responsible resource extraction that balances economic activity with social and environmental protection across Ghana's mining regions.
