Building Stronger Voices for Safeguards in Ghana's Extractive Landscapes

The BRACE Project has completed a Third Party Finance Assessment to identify civil society organizations positioned to advance environmental governance and community resilience in Ghana's mining regions.

The assessment evaluated organizations based on capacity, financial systems, and alignment with sustainable natural resource governance goals. Key achievements the project aims to sustain include strengthened community participation in resource management, enhanced advocacy for responsible mining, and improved collaboration between civil society and decision-makers.

For sustainable minerals governance, the assessment highlighted COMPAD GH, the Africa Centre for Environment and Energy Sustainability (ACEES), and Concerned Citizens of the Atewa Landscape (CCAL) as leading advocates. In Community Resource Management Areas (CREMAs), Eco Trend Foundation Ghana and The Resource Foundation Ghana emerged as strong partners committed to community-led conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

The assessment establishes a coordinated framework for environmental governance across Ghana's extractive regions, prioritizing organizations with technical expertise, local presence, and community trust to translate environmental protection into sustained action.
