Through the BRACE Project, we worked with communities, traditional authorities, CREMAs, civil society organisations, legal practitioners, media and other stakeholders to strengthen environmental and human rights protection, improve participation in extractive-sector governance, and promote accountability.

Our Approach
Across these activities, BRACE focused on more than delivering training or holding meetings. The project sought to build informed, confident and active communities that can understand their rights, participate in decisions affecting their resources, engage duty bearers and seek accountability when those rights are threatened.
By combining community empowerment, leadership development, legal support, evidence gathering and policy engagement, BRACE worked to strengthen the ability of communities and civil society to contribute to more responsible and accountable extractive-sector governance.
